Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac OS X, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems.

This is a list of features in Audacity, the free audio editor.

Audacity can record live audio through a microphone or mixer, or digitize recordings from cassette tapes, vinyl records, or minidiscs. With some sound cards, it can also capture streaming audio.

KNOPPIX is a bootable Live system on CD or DVD, consisting of a representative collection of GNU/Linux software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals. KNOPPIX can be used as a productive Linux system for the desktop, educational CD, rescue system, or adapted and used as a platform for commercial software product demos. It is not necessary to install anything on a hard disk. 

Included Software

Depending on your choice of CD or DVD, a variety of software packages is installed. The CD version contains at least:
