Hello people, for people that don't know, november 2009, Micrisoft changed the protocol of MSN servers, the most strange of all, is that Microsoft did it 2 days after the aMSN 0.98.1 release.. which support audio/video calls.. maybe a coincidence, but the new protocol no more supports audio/video calls, and the nickname is reset everytime that you login.. it caused problems in all non Microsoft MSN clients and old Windows Live clients.. so, all old Windows Live users are forced to update your versions to the WLM 2009 version for "security" reasons..
WLM 2009 which uses MSNP18 and has the ability to do Audio/Video calls through a tunneled SIP (P2P SIP messages, not using an external SIP server) and so, they realized that their SIP servers aren’t being used anymore, so they had this great idea of shutting down their servers… the result? aMSN can’t do Audio/Video calls because the SIP server refuses our connections.
pidgin, emessene also have the same nick issues..
For me, it was a Microsoft's slapstick, unhaply it is the that capitalists do..

particularly, I almost don't use MSN today.. I prefer more the GoogleTalk protocol, which is faster to login, and is very stable for audio/video calls, or alternatively I use Skype, that can use audio/video calls.. I only don't discards the MSN because I have many friends there..
Gmail+Google Talk on pidgin is a nice combination for me..

some source about protocol changing: aMSN Home Page

hugs,
